Whip pan and zoom transitions in Premiere Pro

Editors usually build a whip pan or zoom transition from an adjustment layer over the cut, with Transform keyframes and motion blur. Motion Imp makes, trims and names that layer for you: put the playhead on the cut, pick a transition and click Add.

The manual way

  1. Add an adjustment layer (File › New › Adjustment Layer), put it on a free track over the cut, and trim it to a few frames on each side.
  2. Add the Transform effect and keyframe Position for a whip pan or Scale for a zoom. Ease the keyframes so it speeds up into the cut.
  3. Turn on motion blur: untick Use Composition's Shutter Angle on Transform and set one.
  4. Save it as a preset (right-click Transform › Save Preset) and drag it onto the next cut's adjustment layer. Direction, length and name are still yours to set each time.

With Motion Imp

  1. Open Window › UXP Plugins › Motion Imp and put the playhead on a cut.
  2. Pick a transition in Browse. Arrows on a card pick the direction.
  3. Click Add. Select the placed transition to change its length, amount and motion blur in Edit.

Whip Pan, Push, Roll and Stretch go any direction; Zoom, Zoom Out, Spin, Glitch, Blur, Flash and Dip to Black are there too. Layer transitions need no spare frames on the clips.

One cut per click. Push needs spare frames on both sides of the cut, and speed-changed clips aren't supported yet. Motion Imp also adds titles, layouts and censor boxes. Needs Windows 10 or 11 and Premiere Pro 26. More about Motion Imp.
