Markers on the beat in Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro has no beat detection, so the built-in way is to play the song and press M on every hit. Beat Imp does it in one step: select the song, press Ctrl+Shift+B, and the big hits get a marker.

The manual way

  1. Play the song on the timeline and press M on every hit you want to cut on, by ear.
  2. Go back and drag the markers that landed late.
  3. Put clips on the markers. Select them in the Project panel, then Clip › Automate to Sequence with Placement set to At Unnumbered Markers.
  4. Do it all again for the next song.

With Beat Imp

  1. Select the music clip on the timeline.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+B. Big hits get a red marker; choose Every hit in the Beat Imp panel to add the small ones in yellow, or a beat grid for every beat or bar.
  3. Cut on the markers, or let it place clips from a bin on the hits, on a free track.

On three songs checked by ear, the default marked 74 of the 77 big hits, with no extra markers. Run it again and it replaces only its own markers.

Some songs come out at double or half tempo, and bars are counted in 4/4. It marks the song and places clips; it doesn't cut clips already on your timeline. Needs Windows 10 or 11 and Premiere Pro 26. More about Beat Imp.
